I decided to go for a wonder down Brick Lane a while back and pick a place at random. I was in one of those moods where I was tired of doing home work and research. I was in the area and thought I would just stumble in to a random curry house and see what I could find. Naturally, this is where the blaggers of Brick Lane come in to play and try and drag you in to their restaurant, but hey, I was game, its all part of the dance. So many different people representing the Indian houses of Brick Lane trying to convince me to come in and eat at their establishment. After a brief weekend away with my girlfriend we had a hankering for something to eat the moment we got off the plane. Naturally the first thing I hanker for when travelling abroad is a good curry. Europe has never been able to do a good curry in my experience, so on the drive back from the airport we decided we were a little too tired to cook so we put an order through at Royal Spice.  Royal Spice is one of my favourite Indian take away's in Cambridge. In the past it has always been punctual, good value, and had the best (and most generous) food portions. So I was well looking forward to getting stuck in after a long day travelling as we were both dead tired. What better thing to come home too? After my god awful experience with Royal Spice the other week, I decided to continue my take away review saga and see what the Kismet had to offer. Like Royal Spice, this place has a sterling reputation with people in Cambridge, especially in the Romsey Town area. One could argue that it is a bit of a hidden gem in Cambridge. Its an easy place to miss and a hard place to find. Its dead in the centre of Romsey Towns residential area of many many identical streets and one way systems. Though in my opinion, its a place well worth looking for...or better yet, just order through Just Eat and get it delivered! As we all may or may not know, Just Eat couldn't be easier to order from. Everything is listed and you just tick what you want. They had a decent selection of cuisine on the menu and a selection of English dishes. When people ask me what I think the best Indian restaurant in Cambridge is, so many places spring to mind. Indian House for me always comes up in my head but for some reason its never the place I have ever put straight at number one. That is, until now! Every time I visit Indian House in Newnham I am simply blown away by the quality of the food here, and the other day was no exception. The establishment is classy, beautifully located (next to the Mill Pond), and the service is always decent. The prices aren't expensive either, especially when you consider the quality you get.  They have a ramp for disabled access too, which is more than can be said for a lot of places in the city! (Though I would like to see them get disabled toilets!) During my last visit, everything was simply perfect. What else is there to say? During one of my many journeys down the A428 I noticed a small place called "Spice Box" next to all fast food establishments at the Caxton services, like Subway and Mc Donalds. Naturally this intrigued me as it looked like a chain restaurant or some sort of fast food equivalent for Indian food. Sadly I didn't have to the time to investigate further.  I passed it several times again over the past year but again, had no time to actually go in. The place has been teasing me for quite some time! I couldn't help but wonder what it was. I had never seen a fast food brand of Indian before. Could it be what I imagined? If it wasn't, what the hell is an Indian restaurant doing at a service station anyway? One of our very own Indian restaurants came out a winner at the English Curry Awards last year, winning the category of "B est take away in the East of England". Naturally this got my attention so we decided to investigate!  Cambridge Curry Crew - Assemble!  I set up an event on the  Cambridge Curry Crew Facebook group  and booked a table for 10. I wanted a group of people to come with me so I could get numerous opinions on the place and see if it was really justified in winning that award.  The Raja is a reasonably new place set on the fine road of King Street, yet I haven't heard many people bang on about it in a way which would justify it winning an award.  We decided to eat in, despite the Raja winning the best take away category. A little while back I mentioned that I was working on a little side project with a friend to tackle the appalling disabled access in our area. Click here! One of my best friends is currently on a crusade fighting for better wheelchair access around Cambridge. It would mean a lot to him (and me) if you could check out his blog and support him in his fight!  I think its a fantastic piece of work and he has been working damn hard on it over the past few months. It is great for highlighting the every day struggle of being in a wheel chair and really makes you appreciate how we take being able bodies for granted every day.  The blog really highlights how simple things like going for a meal or for a coffee can actually be a real challenge in some of our biggest high street names.
